More About The University Of Siena

Founded in 1240, the University of Siena, is one of Italy’s oldest and earliest publicly funded institutions. In 2006, it had around 20,000 students, accounting for roughly half of Siena’s total population of around 54,000. The Schools of Law, Medicine, and Economics and Management are the most well-known parts of the University of Siena today.

Virginia Angiola Borrino (1880–1965), one of the founding members of the Italian Association of Medical Women and the first woman to lead a university pediatric ward in Italy, was given her first pediatrics chair at the University of Siena.
